One of the hidden reasons why recipes fail when prepared across borders is the regional variance in measuring spoon sizes. A standard US Customary Tablespoon equals 14.79 mL. In the UK, Canada, and Europe, the metric tablespoon is legally calibrated to 15.00 mL. In Australia, a standard tablespoon is legally defined as 20.00 mL (equivalent to 4 metric teaspoons instead of 3).
